German Brass Goes Bach
German Brass
From the first time I listened to German Brass I was hooked by so many things! First of all is the sound. So homogeneous, so pure, so fat - I just loved it. It was back than when I only knew of Canadian Brass. Of course, I love them too, but this is a very different thing. Secondly, the perfect intonation, all the time, knocked me down. I remember listening to the Bach / Vivaldi Concerto and apart from being fascinated by the technique, I just listened again and again to the last chord, and couldn't believe how they achieved such clean tuning, perfect balance and sound. Like a perfectly tuned organ - but just much better! Many times when I feel like I need a reminder for a sound concept or very good, high quality playing, I choose to listen to this amazing ensemble. I love all of their CD's, really, but I usually choose one of their Christmas CD's first, because I love the music, the arrangements and of course the performances. There's quite a lot of piccolo orchestral excerpts from Bach and so it is great to hear it in that setting of a brass ensemble. This is how I got familiar with the German Brass and I really think it is one of the greatest recordings from a brass ensemble.
