Reinhold Friedrich
Definitely one of my favorite trumpet players, musicians and people. What I love the most about Reinhold's recordings is the excitement you get while listening. Each note is lively and energetic with full meaning and commitment. The variety of music Reinhold records is unbelievable. From Baroque and keyed trumpets to Zimmerman, Berio and new works written for him. Listening to Reinhold is always inspiring and fun. His performances and recordings are unique and I can always tell from the first note that it is him who plays. On top of his solo CDs, I must mention also his amazing career as an orchestral player. As the solo trumpet of the Lucern Festival Orchestra we are lucky to have so many great recordings of great orchestral pieces for the trumpet – almost a full Mahler cycle, lots of Bruckner, Stravinsky, Debussy and so on. Beautiful playing in each recording, and the feeling that you wished it would never end.
It is very difficult to choose one album and even more difficult to choose one piece to put here. If I really have to choose I would say that his CD La Belle Epoque is very highly recommended. First of all - it's beautiful music and performed beautifully but what I like about this CD is that you can find pieces of different difficulty levels and a lot of pieces that most of us trumpet players played during our studies. Another great CD I love is his new CD from 2017 with pianist Eriko Takezawa - L'amour français. Again, beautiful music with very interesting pieces. Very joyful!
